THERAPY DOGS INTERNATIONAL

Therapy Dogs International, Inc. (TDI) is our parent club. Under the skillful guidance of their CEO, Ursula Kempe, they are the source of the inspiration that got all this good work started. In 1999, as our club was being established, they provided us with guidance and leadership to help us get our program underway. TDI is the anchor that holds us all together. They maintain the focus and keep things on track, not just for our group, but for all their therapy dog groups around the world. They set the standards we all strive to adhere to, and with their help, we have quickly grown to become the club we are today, one of the largest and most active groups in the country.

TDI sometimes calls upon us, along with other groups, to support their larger efforts such as our recent involvement at Pier 94 in New York City where a calming influence was desparately needed. TDI contacted every therapy dog group within a defined radius and helped coordinate getting dogs and handlers in place to answer the call. They did the same thing at the Pentagon, and a few years back, they had teams in Oklahoma City as well..... For those of us who were there, there is no doubt in our hearts that our Therapy Dogs made a huge difference for a lot of people in New York City.

As a successful club, we have our own ideas and a lot of enthusiasm, but we recognize and respect TDI's leadership. They allow us our autonomy, yet they are always there when we need them. We may approach things in a slightly different way at times, but when we get together, there is an unmistakable and powerful synergy. And although we are "Greater Lehigh Therapy Dogs", every single dog and handler in our group is tested and certified by TDI Evaluators. We are all members of TDI and proud of it.
